Gala New York Raises US$450,000 and Marks Launch of Campaign

Abrace o Brasil campaign aims to fundraise for 100 organizations in Brazil

Last night BrazilFoundation held its XV Gala New York at the Mandarin Oriental New York, gathering 470 guests from the business, art and diplomatic spheres.

Marcus Ribeiro, human rights activist, PRISA America’s Director and BrazilFoundation board member since 2000, chaired the event, together with businesswoman Marina Morena as co-chair.

Andrea Dellal and Francisco Costa, past gala honorees and long-time supporters of the Foundation, were MCs of the night. Actress Fiorella Mattheis hosted the auction.

This edition of the gala highlighted the importance of human rights, honoring Lea Cerezo, model and activist for LGBTQ rights; Nizan Guanaes, adman responsible for prominent campaigns promoting inclusion including “Todo Bebê é um Bebê Johnson’s”; Rodrigo Mendes, Founder of Instituto Rodrigo Mendes, an organization that works for inclusive education in Brazil; and Museu do Amanhã, for the project Trans+Respeito, an initiative that has brought visibility for the transexual community.

The highlight of the evening was the launch of the Abrace o Brasil campaign, an initiative to foster a culture of philanthropy in Brazil. One hundred organizations from throughout Brazil are participating and accepting donations at abraceobrasil.org.
