BrazilFoundation’s III Minas Gala raises R$ 3 million

The III BrazilFoundation Gala Minas set a new record, raising R$ 3 million to invest in social justice and equity for thousands of people in Brazil.

After a two-year pause due to the pandemic, on Wednesday, August 10th, we gathered more than 350 people at Casa Tua, in Minas Gerais, and set a new fundraising record in Brazil to invest in civil society organizations. I am at a loss for words to truly express my gratitude to Minas Gerais!

The funds will be invested in civil society organizations throughout Brazil that promote race and gender equity, sustainable livelihoods, adaptations to climate change and quality inclusive education. We especially thank the event chairs Fabiola and Daniel Vorcaro, Denise Magalhães, Virginia Bartolomeo and Diageo.

We were proud to honor Movimento Bem Maior for its groundbreaking efforts to advance philanthropy in Brazil. Co-Founder Eugênio Mattar received the award and noted, “Philanthropy is the seed of a dream…We won’t get anywhere without extending a hand to others.”

BrazilFoundation grantees present included Fabiane Lopes, João Souza, Ludmila Silva and Tatiana Silva of FA.VELA, in Belo Horizonte; Tomaz and Elzira Resende of Instituto Ramacrisna, in Betim; Tião Rocha and Flavia Mota of CPCD – Centro Popular de Cultura e Desenvolvimento, in Araçuaí; Fernanda Cruz and Paulo Roberto Sandim of Instituto Metamorfose, in Igarapé; Ricardo Abrahão and Robson Araújo of Instituto Pelo Bem do Planeta in Governador Valadares; and Benilda Brito of Coletivo de Mulheres Negras N’Zinga, in Belo Horizonte. Grantees from other states included Ritelza Cabral of Tapera das Artes, in Aquiraz, CE; Isabel Montoro and José Henrique Nascimento of Renova BR, in São Paulo; Caroline Bispo and Erica Priscila Germano of Elas Existem, in Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre; and Ana Carolina de Moura, do CEERT – Centro de Estudos das Relações de Trabalho e Desigualdades, São Paulo.

The III Gala Minas was supported by many generous families, businesses and institutions at this critical time when Brazilians face a crisis marked by food insecurity and growing historical social inequalities. We joined together to reaffirm our mission to promote social justice and expanded opportunity for all Brazilians.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be part of BrazilFoundation’s event, hearing so many inspirational stories and promoting actions to resource and strengthen Brazilian institutions. Being a part of this collective energy is so gratifying. Long live BrazilFoundation!” – Joaquim Lopes, Gala MC.

We are deeply grateful to all who shared their talents: our ambassador, Flávia Alessandra, and Rodrigo Carneiro, who led the auction to raise R$900 thousand; our masters of ceremony Erika Januza, Silvia Braz and Joaquim Lopes; Fernanda Abreu and the Passinho dancers who put on a fabulous show; and DJ Marina Diniz, who kept the dancing moving until past 3:00 a.m.

A special thank you to those who made this special night a reality: Presenting Sponsor Banco Master; Platinum Sponsors Instituto Gerson Bartolomeo and Johnnie Walker Blue Label; Gold Sponsors Desinchá, Kovr Seguradora and Hand Foundation; Silver Sponsor Prime You.
