What does it mean to be a child? How does one define a child in the social sphere? What does Brazilian legislation state about childhood? To find ways to answer these questions, BrazilFoundation brought the five projects on early childhood education to its offices in Rio de Janeiro to discuss the questions and for training sessions guided by these questions.

During the meeting, 10 leaders from Goiás, Pernambuco, Paraná, Bahia and Piauí shared their different experiences and identified the challenges faced by their organizations. The workshop was moderated by Nazareth Salutto, who holds a master’s degree in Education from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and is a specialist in childhood education from PUC-Rio. She offered a presentation on childhood education in Brazil, addressing the concepts of childhood and children.
