Campaign Vivo à Beira Raises R$ 250,000

After traveling more than 7,000 kilometers across the Atlantic in the legendary Transat Jacques Vabre race, Vivo à Beira landed in Salvador on November 21st to bring opportunities to youth in Brazil’s favelas. The trip, a childhood dream of Pierre Lacaze, BrazilFoundation partner since 2011 and CEO of LCM Commodities, was part of his Vivo à Beira campaign to inspire the Brazilian youth in Brazil’s favelas and raise resources for social initiatives in Rio and Salvador. A total of R$ 250k was raised through the campaign, which will be invested in four social projects.

Pierre wanted to use his own dream as a way to enable young Brazilians to do the same. “My message to you is don’t let anyone tell you that your dreams are too big. Make them as big as you can…” Pierre said upon arriving in Salvador. Yoann Richomme, a young and experienced captain with an excellent track record in the French sailing circuit, also joined Pierre for the campaign. Renowned artist JR. also collaborated by designing artwork – a giant eye – for the boat’s sail. Together the team helped make the campaign go global.

Donors from around the world embraced the initiative as well, with the campaign receiving donations from 3 countries. Campaign partners held four events between New York, Salvador and Rio to help in the fundraising. Together the campaign raised R $ 250k to be invested over two years. Here are some of the projects to receive support in 2018:

Quabales, in Salvador, BA, uses music as a tool for social transformation for children and youth in Salvador. In Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Camerata Laranjeiras unites entrepreneurship and classical music training to create income generation opportunities for youth; UMRio, in São Gonçalo, RJ, utilizes rugby, education and healthcare to promote personal development in youth; and Abraço Campeão provides boxing and mentoring to kids and youth from Complexo do Alemão, RJ.

BrazilFoundation, the Vivo à Beira team, and Rio and Salvador’s youth thank all who supported this campaign. A special thank you goes out to the Fera Palace Hotel, Karen Lassner, Liza Diamond, Mandy Gulbandsen, Jade Dressler, Optiver and LCM Commodities. Your support will help create opportunities in Brazil and inspire us all to continue “sailing”.
