Gala gathers 500 guests at The New York Public Library to celebrate Brazilian non-profit organizations working to improve social conditions in Brazil

The BrazilFoundation IX Gala, presented by Camargo Corrêa, took place on Monday, September 19th 2011, gathering the Foundation’s partners, friends, and donors and raising US $1.6 million to support social projects in Brazil.

Guests were welcomed by Andrea Dellal, the Gala Chair, Nizan Guanaes, the Co-Chair, Patrícia Lobaccaro, the BrazilFoundation President and CEO, and Leona Forman, Founding President.

In attendance at the event were Ambassador Luiz Felipe de Seixas Corrêa; Regina Cordeiro Dunlop, Brazilian Ambassador to the UN; Roberto Marinho Neto; Angela Gutierrez; Carla Amorim; Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti; Michael Roberts, who designed the Gala invitation; Ronaldo Fenômeno; Raí de Oliveira; Lorenzo Martone; Luigi Tadini;  Oskar Metsavaht; Fabio and Ângela Auriemo; Amanda Hearst; Lenny Niemeyer and Nessia Pope; top models Isabeli Fontana, Ana Beatriz Barros, Alessandra Ambrosio, Fernanda Motta, and Jeisa Chiminazzo.

Masters of Ceremonies Alice Dellal and Pedro Andrade announced the event honorees on stage, after a video produced by Africa Global portrayed the trajectories of  Luciano Huck, President-Director of Instituto Criar, Bernardo Paz, Founder of Instituto Inhotim and  Renata de Camargo Nascimento, President of the Board Comunitas.

Jesse Eisenberg, presented the Global Brazilian Award to Director Carlos Saldanha for his work promoting Brazilian culture and awareness of the plight of endangered species. Valentino announced the International Philanthropy Award to Natalia Vodianova for her work as Founder and Trustee of Naked Heart Foundation.

The event decor by Carlos Mota and the Flowers Zezé Calvo conveyed the event’s theme: the International Year of the Forests.

Art works curated by Nessia Pope were auctioned, including jewelry and unique experiences, such as a tour to Inhotim with Founder and honoree Bernardo Paz, and a special package by the Fasano Hotel.  Soccer player Ronaldo surprised he audience when he went on the stage and donated an autographed Brazilian soccer jersey, which was old for US$ 30,000.

Bids to the  BrazilFoundation IX Annual Gala online auction on charitybuzz.com will close on September 27th.

Preta Gil ended the evening with a contagious presentation followed by  DJ Chelsea Leyland.  Guests were off to the After Party, sponsored by Shopping Cidade Jardim, at the Hotel Americano with DJ Julio Santo Domingo, Vivi Seixas and Mile Frugaletti, and grafitti art Rogerio Fernandes.
