Increasingly donors are recognizing BrazilFoundation's capacity to facilitate donations to specific organizations that they know and would like to support.
BrazilFoundation can serve as a fiscal agent, directing funds to these projects and offering donors the opportunity to deduct the gift from US taxes, but only after performing due-diligence, verifying that the organization and its projects are not-for-profit, without political affiliations, fit within BrazilFoundation's program guidelines and meet strict standards of accountability.

In addition to unrestricted and donor-advised grants, BrazilFoundation facilitates gifts in any of five thematic areas: education, health, human rights, citizenship and culture.
A donor requested that BrazilFoundation choose a project in the field of Human Rights. We had no difficulty identifying Instituto Sou da Paz and awarding their project, "Brazil Without Weapons," the $10,000 gift. The work of Sou da Paz is a perfect example of the kind of social investments BrazilFoundation promotes: the project touches people directly, in this case encouraging them to diminish violence by ridding their communities of small guns; can be replicated in other Brazilian cities, and has had a substantial influence on social policy.
Social research shows that every 13 minutes a Brazilian is murdered; 85% of those who die of gunshot wounds do not die at the hand of bandits or gangs, but are shot in their own homes, at social gatherings, in nightclubs, or at sporting events. Sou da Paz has been acclaimed for its work in disarming the population and combating violence in São Paulo.
BrazilFoundation's grant enables Sou da Paz to share its know-how with NGOs in other big cities in Brazil that want to learn how to organize a disarmament campaign. Since collecting 345 weapons in its first campaign, Sou da Paz has been working in close cooperation with the media and local police, multiplying its success each year. In its last campaign, on July 9, 2002, Sou da Paz collected some 3,500 weapons and the police collected over 44,000!
