V ANNUAL GALA RAISES RECORD AMOUNT

An enthusiastic crowd of 500 people helped BrazilFoundation make the V Annual Gala last night at Cipriani 42nd Street a great success. The Roberto Marinho Foundation (RJ), a pioneer in philanthropy in Brazil, was honored for its thirty years of supporting cultural, environmental, and educational initiatives; President José Roberto Marinho accepted the distinction. BrazilFoundation grantee Vidança, a troupe of young dancers from the poor outskirts of Fortaleza in Northeast Brazil, entertained guests with a colorful and resplendent performance. DJ Ze Pedro ended the evening by getting the crowd out of their seats and on to the dance floor, spinning a variety of remixed Brazilian music.

José Roberto Marinho and wife Vania, and Ambassador Jose Alfredo Graca Lima, Brazil's general consul in Nova York with wife Marisa.
A busy silent auction, which featured jewelry by Pedro Brando, Claudia Leroy, Camila Sarpi, H. Stern, and Mirian Sakai, and purses by Carlos Falchi, Tufi Duek, and Osklen, raised $25,000. Overall, the event generated more than $400,000 for social projects in Brazil.

Present at the Gala were ambassadors José Alfredo Graça Lima, Counsel General of Brazil in New York, Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations; advertising executive Armando Strozenberg; the president of Pfizer Europe Pedro Lichtinger; actresses Cissa Guimarães and Beth Goffman, actor José Wilker, the stylist Oscar Metsavaht of Osklen. Models that continue to support BrazilFoundation are Carolina Bittencourt, Luciana Curtis, Cristiane Cavalcante, Simone Hanke, Daniela Oliveira and Fabiana Saba. TV personalities Mariana Kupfer and Marjorie Andrade covered the event.

Underwriting sponsors this year were TAM Airlines, Deutsche Bank, and investment bank Atlas Advisors.  Additional support was received from the Roberto Marinho Foundation, Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, Bloomberg, CVRD, JP Morgan, Pfizer, Goldman Sachs, Safra Bank, Tinker Foundation, and the Far Hills Group. Media partner NYCTV provided coverage, and beautiful flowers were supplied by Zeze Flores. Caipirinhas Pitu were provided by Martin Friedland, transportation was supplied by Albotroz Limosine Services and photographers Tobias Everke, Karine Basilio, and Rebecca Galbinski helped document the evening.

In six years of operation, BrazilFoundation has directed more than $6.5 million dollars to 222 social projects throughout Brazil.

"This evening is a celebration of excellence and we at Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management Group are proud to be a vital partner in building prosperity.
