BRAZILFOUNDATION'S IV ANNUAL GALA IN NEW YORK BENEFITING SOCIAL PROJECTS IN BRAZIL  25 September 2006 Dear Friends, With great pleasure, I write you to share the wonderful results of BrazilFoundation's IV Annual Gala Benefit. The event was a huge success: as one of our 460 guests said, "I have never seen so many people having such a great time!" We were able to raise a gross amount of $325,000. After expenses, it is the Projects Fund that will support our 2007 project selection cycle. This success wouldn't have been possible without commitment and effort of the Gala committee, our staff, volunteers, and the support of our underwriting sponsors: Atlas Advisors, Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD), Pfizer, and TAM Airlines. This year, we decided the Gala would honor our grantees - and through them, local social entrepreneurs in all corners of Brazil. With the generous support of TAM Airlines, representatives of our project Reciclarte in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, flew to New York to perform at the Gala. Seven young musicians of Reciclart's Orquestra da Grota de Surucucu performed classical music with a Brazilian twist. They received a standing ovation! New York Public Radio (WNYC) aired a story about two of the young musicians, the twins Wagner and Walter Caldas.
