CAMPAIGN REACHES OUT TO NEW FRIENDS ACROSS THE NATION
BrazilFoundation took another big step in its National Expansion Project with the launching of the new Friend of BrazilFoundation Campaign. This effort empowers those concerned with Brazil to take part in creating a more equitable society. Dozens of businesses and hundreds of people have joined this fun and rewarding enterprise.
The new Friend of BrazilFoundation Campaign takes an organized approach to motivating individuals and businesses across the United States. For a minimum donation of $30, anyone can become a Friend of BrazilFoundation. This contribution goes toward increasing the Foundation's capacity to fund projects in the area of health, culture, education, citizenship, and human rights. By establishing a large base of Friends across the country, the Foundation hopes to mobilize the aspirations that many have for a better Brazil.

The Campaign also gives something back to those who donate. Discounts, perks, and gift certificates are provided by our growing list of Partners: Churrascaria Plataforma, Churrascaria Riodizio Tribeca, H. Stern, Chanteclair Travel Agency, Buzz Brazil, Buzina Pop, and Hélio de Souza Hair Studio in New York City; Samba na Brasa in Mount Vernon; and Chima Steakhouse in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. To attract new Friends, the Foundation will be hosting events exclusively for Friends in New York, Boston, and Los Angeles.
Mauricio Lorenzi, Chefe de Carne at Churrascaria Riodizio Tribeca, became a Friend on the spot when BrazilFoundation held its press conference at the churrascaria. For him, it's important that each person do their part. "If everyone helps a little, we can create large improvements in Brazil." Like Lorenzi, Model Carolina Bittencourt understands how much further her contribution can go in Brazil, "For the price of a taxi ride here in New York, you can make a fundamental difference in the life of a Brazilian."
To participate, simply visit the BrazilFoundation website - www.brazilfoundation.org. Registration to become a Friend is secure and takes less than five minutes to complete. A personalized Friendship card will then be sent to you. You will also find information on benefits, projects in Brazil, interviews with Friends, and upcoming events on the Campaign's website. The success of the Campaign depends on your support; so take the next step and become a Friend of BrazilFoundation!

GALA COMMITTEE BEGINS PREPARATION FOR THE V ANNUAL GALA
A Pre-Gala Reception on March 27th was held at the home of Ambassador José Alfredo Graça Lima and his wife Mariza to help acquaint representatives of the business and investment community in New York with the work and objectives of the organization. Foundation staff had the opportunity to describe last year's Gala, which brought together 460 guests who danced to the music of Margareth Menezes and her band while raising a grand total of $325,000.
The Gala constitutes the Foundation's most important fundraiser of the year and your presence is important in making the V Annual Gala a night to be remembered. Click here to see photos. Support will increase the Foundation's ability to fund more projects, which make a difference in the lives of so many Brazilians. This year 975 project proposals were received from every one of the 27 states in Brazil.
Last year, thanks to the generosity of Tam Airlines, BrazilFoundation was able to bring to New York seven young musicians from Reciclarte's Orquestra da Grota de Surucucu to perform at the Gala. This grantee of the Foundation provides an opportunity to learn and play classical music to underprivileged kids in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro. Their touching performance received a standing ovation. New York Public Radio (WNYC) aired a story about two of the young musicians, the twins Wagner and Walter Caldas, and their US debut. To listen to this story once again, click here.
TAM Airlines has pledged its support to the Gala this year, and as a result, representatives of another grantee organization may be brought up to meet with the donor community. Zezé Flowers, who for the past four years has made our event so beautiful, will make the flower arrangements for the Gala pro-bono. Additional details as they are finalized will be posted on the Foundation's website www.brazilfoundation.org.
To attend the V Annual Gala or sponsor a table, please visit our website or contact our office (212-244-3663).
The Foundation counts on your support to make our V Annual Gala the best so far!

PROJECT ANALYSTS BEGIN THE SELECTION PROCESS
The 2007 Annual Project Selection began on January 5th with the first reading of the 975 total project proposals received at the Rio office. Not only has the Foundation received 16% more applications this year than in 2006, but for the first time project proposals have been submitted from every state in Brazil, from Acre to Tocatins. These project proposals reflect the rich diversity of approaches by grassroot organizations throughout the country in dealing with problems communities face.
The greatest number of projects focus on the areas of Education and Citizenship (basic rights and responsibilities, capacity building). The region submitting the most projects remained the Southeast. For the first time, Minas Gerais overtook the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo with the most proposals.
As in previous years, the project proposals will be read by different analysts and narrowed down to fifty finalists. Field visits to personally assess each project's potential for tangible results will be made. Projects BrazilFoundation selects for funding distinguish themselves by their ability to help transform social conditions in their communities, for their replicability of their programs in other locales, and for their potential to influence public policy. Proposals selected are directly funded by the Foundation and others are placed in a Projects Bank for which the Foundation seeks partners.
