WORLD CUP SOLIDARITY:
BrazilFoundation and pizzeria Piola partner as the world plays soccer

If you are soccer fanatic or would like to see the Brazilian team perform during the World Cup this year you can transform the pleasure of the game into an opportunity to contribute to social projects in Brazil.

BrazilFoundation has sealed a partnership with pizzeria Piola, in New York, from which 50% of the income received from the sales of Brahma beer and Guaraná Antártica consumed during the World Cup in 2006 will be donated to the foundation.

All Brazil’s matches will be played live at Piola on a large-screen plasma TV and will be replayed on the same day at 6:00 p.m.

Piola is on 48 East 12th Street, between University Place and Broadway. For reservations, please call (212) 777-7781

PARTY IN THE HAMPTONS TO CELEBRATE SUMMER AND RAISE RESOURCES FOR PROJECT IN BRAZIL’S NORTHEAST

A cold caipirinha at the edge of a swimming pool in the Hamptons, New York’s favorite beach haven is, without a doubt, the one of the city’s best summer activities. Cristina Markman, a dentist from Brazil, decided that the locale would also be perfect to raise funds for a project that brings water to poor communities in Pernambuco, in Brazil’s semi-arid northeast.

Cristina and her husband Michael Warszawski are organizing a party on June 24 by the pool at their summer home in East Hampton in partnership with BrazilFoundation. In addition to caipirinhas donated by cachaça Leblon, the menu includes a traditional feijoada provided by Churrascaria Plataforma.

The couple hopes to raise US$ 5,000, the amount necessary for the organization CEDAPP to initiate a community project to build cisterns that will guarantee water for families in 22 communities in the state’s interior.

Those interested in participating in the party should contact BrazilFoundation’s office (212) 244-3663.

BRAZILFOUNDATION PREPARES FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN WITH RESTAURANTS

BrazilFoundation is organizing a campaign to build a donor community among successful Brazilian restaurants in the US. The idea is for the restaurants to dedicate a percentage of their income each year on September 7, Brazil’s Independence Day, to invest in social projects in Brazil. The restaurants would be able to deduct a portion of the donations from their US income taxes. In addition, they would gain visibility and new customers.

We ask our readers to help spread the idea for the campaign. Talk to the owners of your favorite Brazilian restaurants about participating in this project. For more information, please contact BrazilFoundation’s office in New York at (212) 244-3663.
