BrazilFoundation began its sixth year in business and we are very excited about our plans to grow the organization. In this issue of our Newsletter, you will see how we intend to expand our donor base and our other sources of funding in the United States.
Our latest Annual Report shows that BrazilFoundation has already enlisted a community of 5,000 people, counting Brazilians who live and work in the US and non-Brazilians who have an interest in Brazil. In five years, the number of active donors has leaped from 50 to 700. This is an impressive achievement for a foundation that has gotten by up until now thanks solely to the active participation of volunteers. But we don't want to stop here.
Every year in Brazil the foundation has to turn down, for lack of funding, hundreds of compelling projects from entities that are working hard to transform the social reality of the country. There is no doubt that the financing we are able to provide makes a major difference to the beneficiary organizations. Many of them have been able to multiply their own donor networks, and others have been awarded important prizes. In this issue, we will tell some of their stories.
Our overall goal continues to be the delivery of resources to the greatest number of worthy organizations so that their laudable ideas bear fruit and improve the lives of thousands of Brazilians. We hope that we can continue to count on your indispensable support in 2006 so that all this can happen.
