Dear Friends

This edition of BrazilFoundation's newsletter registers the two most important events of our calendar year, the Annual Grant Awards Ceremony in Rio de Janeiro and the Annual BrazilFoundation Gala, our main fundraising event, in New York City.

In Rio this July, the foundation invited leaders of the projects that succeeded in our arduous selection process. During the week before the Awards Ceremony, our grantees participated in workshops that will help them use the new resources most effectively. Chosen from more than 1,000 proposals we received from every Brazilian state, these projects represent the best of Brazil's third sector and the creative ideas of its leaders who are training individuals, generating employment, educating children and enabling the exercise of citizenship in Brazil's poorest communities. The grantee conference in Rio promoted an exchange of unique experiences that culminated in a moving ceremony when each project leader received their grant award.

In New York, the Third Annual Gala was also filled with emotion and glamour, as you can see from the photos. BrazilFoundation not only had the honor of former President Fernando Henrique Cardoso's presence at the event, but also received the support of a dynamic new volunteer, singer Daniela Mercury, who gave a stunning performance. The success of our Gala was only possible through the tireless dedication of a team that deserves recognition.

Under the guidance of Malu Millerman and Christina Rose, dozens of volunteers dedicated their time and resources for months to help produce the event. Of these heroes, I would especially like to thank Marcus Vinicius Ribeiro, Flavia Cattan-Naslausky, Vanessa Simone Pereira-Tobin, Danyela Moron, Carolina Widmer and Thais Nobre. We sincerely appreciate the efforts of this winning team. I'd also like to thank Pfizer, the principal sponsor of the event and all of our benefactors, sponsors and supporters. Also, Gustavo Graça of Andreoli Manning, Selvage & Lee (our public relations partner); Leticia Montalvo, Daniela Mercury's manager; Martin Friedland (who provided delicious caipirinhas); and our faithful partners Zezé Flores, Chanteclair Tourism and Hotel Avalon.

The resources raised during the Gala will be distributed to projects throughout Brazil in 2006. Our hope is that until then, we will multiply the resources we have raised to support a greater number of social projects in Brazil. In order to do so, we hope to continue to count on your support. We are nearing the end of the year, a defining time for philanthropic campaigns in the US.

Please don't forget to include BrazilFoundation in your list of donations. By doing so, you will help ensure your tax-deductible benefit and help us invest in a better Brazil.

Enjoy your reading!
